Joe's digipak ideas

These are my digipak ideas. I took the idea of a broken TV and fire because it shows rebellion and danger - something our genre represents. On the inside cover, I have used a promo shot of the band, along with the CD, which will be plain and black, maybe with the bands logo and album title on it. I done this as both a practise for using Photoshop and to show my partner, Maisy, my ideas, maybe potentially ending up being our final product.

Risk Assessment

These are the potential risks I have highlighted that could occur on our music video shoot, along with prevention to each hazard. I have enlisted either myself or Maisy or both of us for being in charge of each potential risk. I done this so I could highlight how dangerous shooting a music video can potentially be.

My ideas for a digipak cover

digipak ideas so far

Digipak Inspirations

In our genre of music (alternative rock) a lot of digipak covers don't actually feature the band. But rather feature an image or something that represents the album. We are planning on using an image or a distorted picture of the band for the digipak cover. A logo which will be consistent across all of the singles/videos during this album campaign will also be featured to show that there is a reoccuring theme throughout.

Test Shots!

Prezi: Lead singer shots

This is Alfie, our lead guitarist.

And this is Karrum, our bassist.

Both guitarists can actually play their instruments which will really help us out when it comes to creating a convincing music video as they understand the practice of syncing and how they need to stand and act whilst pretending to play.

Costume Design

This is the costume design for the band members. We've gone for a grey theme to go with the extras' costumes. Military boots support the idea of the slight political/military theme that the video is going for. This theme is going to be supported by the band members wearing orange arm bands with the 'big brother' style eye on their arms.

Visual Style Moodboard

We are hoping to use a mixture of film noir and the use of colour. We aim to have a very gritty consistent theme throughout which we hope to achieve using editing techniques such as Bad Film & Bad TV. Some images may be over laid to give the feeling of hyper reality. Metropolis is a back drop and setting to add the feeling of claustrophobia and being in something bigger than they are. The idea of the paint (or possibly chalk dust) splattering on will introduce a colour scene, this is to represent how anything can be tainted and nothing is ever perfect. Some shots will have grainy layers interwoven throughout to show a contrast of not only the locations but also the concepts and to add a level of realism and urban feeling to the shots.

Institutions & Marketing Strategy

Task 1

Task 2

This is the link for task 3 http://prezi.com/yfwfwimyzwtp/task-3-institutions-marketing-strategy/

The point of a band/artist's marketing campaign is that it gives the audience a full product to buy into. They feel like they are spending their money well because there is so much on offer - an album, tour tickets, merch etc. A marketing campaign sends out a fully packaged image into a world where people often prefer to look at things rather than read them. We live in a visually stimulated society and media so a marketing campaign presents a uniformed front to help sell an artist.

In the industry, marketing campaigns are funded by the record label that the band is under. A brand/marketing manager deals with the campaign, claiming tv and radio spots and working with Sales and Public Relations to manage the entire campaign.

The marketing of music has changed over time because of the way music is produced, distributed and exchanged as the three sectors become muddled. Many artists are doing it themselves at home - making and recording music, putting it on social networking sites and then on ITunes for people to buy and to make money from. So the need for actual marketing campaigns is become less important in independent music more than mainstream because as long as the artist is popular and has gained enough of a following, they do not need to be packaged and branded with a marketing campaign.

Genre is relevant to a successful marketing campaign because obviously, for more mainstream genres such as Pop and RnB, the artists are more popular, making more money and therefore have more money to spend on a marketing campaign for more people to then put money back into. In less mainstream genres such as Alternative Rock and Indie, there is less money circulating and less popularity so therefore less money to create a successful marketing campaign which people will actually buy into.
